Near ("we," "us," or "our") is committed to protecting your privacy. This Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use, disclose, and safeguard your information when you use our mobile application and website (collectively, the "Service"). Please read this policy carefully.

1. Information We Collect

We collect information you provide directly to us, including:

• Account information: email address, phone number, username, date of birth
• Profile information: profile photo, bio, zodiac sign, social media links (optional)
• Location data: GPS coordinates collected approximately once per minute when the app is active
• Communications: direct messages sent through the app (retained for 72 hours)
• Device information: device type, operating system, app version

2. How We Use Your Information

We use the information we collect to:

• Detect other Near users within 0.1 miles of your location
• Display nearby users on your dashboard
• Enable direct messaging between users
• Process premium subscriptions and in-app purchases
• Send push notifications (with your permission)
• Enforce our community guidelines and safety policies
• Improve and develop our Service

3. Location Data

Location is the core of Near's functionality. Here is exactly how we handle it:

• Your GPS coordinates are checked approximately once per minute
• Your exact location is never shared with other users
• Other users only know that you were within 0.1 miles of them — not where exactly
• All location data is automatically and permanently deleted every 24 hours
• Go invisible: You can disable discoverability at any time using the invisible toggle in your profile settings. While invisible, your location is not tracked or shared with anyone — but you can still browse nearby users normally.
• Custom Hours: You can set a daily active-hours window (e.g., 8am–9pm) in your settings. Near will only collect and process your location during that window. Outside your chosen hours, location services are fully off and you are not visible to other users.

4. Data Retention

• Location data: deleted automatically every 24 hours
• Direct messages: deleted automatically after 72 hours
• Profile data: retained until you delete your account
• Account data: deleted within 30 days of account deletion request

5. Information Sharing

We do not sell your personal information. We may share your information with:

• Service providers who assist in operating our Service (Supabase for database, RevenueCat for subscriptions, Google AdMob for advertising)
• Law enforcement when required by law or to protect safety
• Other parties with your explicit consent

6. Advertising

Near uses Google AdMob to serve rewarded video advertisements. These ads are shown when you choose to unlock profile information. AdMob may collect device identifiers and usage data to serve relevant ads. You can opt out of personalized ads in your device settings.

7. Children's Privacy

Near is intended for users 18 years of age and older. We do not knowingly collect personal information from anyone under 18. If we learn we have collected information from a minor, we will delete that information immediately.

8. Your Rights

You have the right to:

• Access the personal information we hold about you
• Request correction of inaccurate data
• Request deletion of your account and associated data
• Opt out of push notifications at any time
• Disable discoverability at any time via the invisible mode toggle
• Set Custom Hours to restrict location tracking to specific times of day that you define

9. Security

We implement industry-standard security measures including encrypted data transmission, row-level security on our database, and regular security reviews. However, no method of transmission over the internet is 100% secure.
